People’s Credit Union Recognized with Perfect 5-Star Rating from Newsweek

Honored as Best Credit Union in Rhode Island

People’s Credit Union has been recognized with the highest rating in Rhode Island by Newsweek in its 2025 America’s Best Regional Banks and Credit Unions report. This designation honors the country’s top five hundred regional banks and top five hundred regional credit unions that are positively impacting their communities.

To determine this rating, Newsweek collaborated with Plant-A Insights Group utilizing the Texas Ratio, which measures a financial institution’s creditworthiness. The study reviewed the credit union’s profitability, net loans and leases, and recent press coverage. In addition, the study performed an independent customer survey of more than 71,000 U.S. citizens, reviewed 1.9 million social media reviews, and 129 million app store reviews from Apple and Google Play.

“As a credit union, we believe our responsibility goes beyond generating profits. Our mission is rooted in serving our members and putting their best interests first. Every decision we make is driven by a commitment to improving the financial well-being of our members and our community,” said Sean Daly, Head of People’s Credit Union. “Receiving Newsweek’s highest rating for our work toward achieving that goal is both gratifying and empowering. We are deeply grateful to our members for their incredible support and trust in us. We sincerely appreciate our members’ active participation in the process that led to our designation as the best credit union in the state.”

According to Nancy Cooper, Newsweek’s Global Editor in Chief, “Credit unions serve as more than just financial institutions—they are partners in their neighborhoods, actively participating in local events and initiatives that strengthen bonds among members.”
